L’Oréal Infallible vs Maybelline Lasting Fix: what differs?

Compare L’Oréal Infallible mist and Maybelline Lasting Fix by application, finish and wear claims, with practical checks for Australian makeup shoppers.

Choose by the finish and application you want before comparing the hours on the bottle. Maybelline presents Lasting Fix as a matte setting spray; L’Oréal’s Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist uses an aerosol mist. Their wear claims are not a head-to-head test. BuyCheck has not worn or tested either product.

Two products, two different starting points

Maybelline’s Australian product page positions Lasting Fix around a matte finish and shine control, with wear advertised for up to 16 hours. That makes it a relevant option to investigate if a matte result is your priority, rather than simply choosing the biggest number on a label.

L’Oréal’s Australian page describes Infallible 3-Second Setting Mist as an aerosol with a fine spray and claims up to 36-hour wear. The three-second wording concerns its claimed drying time; it is not the time required to do your makeup. Neither number tells us which formula will perform better with your particular foundation.

Application instructions are not interchangeable

For Lasting Fix, Maybelline says to shake, hold the bottle 8–10 inches away (about 20–25 cm), close your eyes and spray four to six times. Its directions warn against spraying directly into eyes or lips.

For Infallible, L’Oréal says to wait until makeup is dry, shake, hold about 20–30 cm away, then spray in a circular motion with eyes and mouth closed. Let the mist dry before continuing. Follow the directions and warnings on the actual pack you buy, including any aerosol handling instructions; do not substitute one product’s spray count for another’s.

Why 36 hours does not automatically beat 16

A longer advertised wear window is not a matched comparison. To establish a winner we would need comparable testing conditions, the same makeup underneath and a clear definition of what counts as acceptable wear. We have not established those conditions for these two products.

L’Oréal identifies a consumer test involving 105 women on its page. That is manufacturer-reported evidence, not BuyCheck testing or an independent trial comparing these sprays. For a shopping decision, focus on your actual use: an office day, a short outing or an evening event, rather than treating the headline duration as a score.

A practical Australian shopping checklist

Check the full product name and pack volume. Lasting Fix and Maybelline’s other setting sprays are different listings; likewise, a smaller and larger Infallible pack should not be compared on sticker price alone. Divide the current price by the millilitres for a like-for-like unit-price check, then add delivery costs if shopping online.

Read the ingredient list on the current pack against your own known preferences or ingredients you have been told to avoid. This comparison does not establish that either formula is suitable for sensitive skin. An Australian brand webpage also does not prove stock at your local shop, so verify the seller’s listing before travelling or ordering.

Try one change before an important event

As a practical comparison method, keep your usual base makeup and change only the finishing spray on an ordinary day. Note whether you like the finish immediately, whether the application is easy to control, and how the makeup looks at the time you would normally remove it. This is a way to assess your preference, not a laboratory test.

If your current routine already gives the finish and wear you need, there is no need to add both products. Start with the problem you want to solve and avoid buying a second spray merely because its label promises more hours.
